“She Was Pretty,” Sunday at 6:30 p.m.; re-airs Monday at 1 p.m.

A romantic comedy about two past acquaintances who meet again after they’ve gone through a reversal of fortunes and appearances, set in the backdrop of a fashion magazine’s publishing office.

Hye-jin Kim was a very pretty girl from a rich family. After her family’s publishing company went bankrupt, she experienced hardships then lost her beauty too. Sung-joon Ji was an unattractive boy with low self-esteem, but grows up to become a handsome and successful editor.

The two met again as adults, but Sung-joon was unable to recognize Hye-jin. Ashamed to meet her first love and ruin his perception of her, Hye-jin asks her attractive best friend, Ha-ri, to appear in her place. Things, however, soon get complicated.

Hye-jung Yoo was a wayward girl in high school with a prickly personality. Due to her many childhood scars, Hye-jung keeps her heart closed towards other people. However, she changes after meeting her mentor Ji-hong Hong, who plays a key role in transforming her life from a “hopeless” delinquent to a compassionate doctor. They part ways subsequently but meet again after 13 years, when Hye-jung Yoo becomes a doctor.

“Between Family,” Monday and Tuesday at 10 p.m./re-airs on Tuesday and Wednesday at 1 p.m.

“Jealousy Incarnate,” Wednesday and Thursday at 7:45 p.m./re-airs on Thursday and Friday at 2:15 p.m.

A story about the fierce competition at a broadcasting station and the love between anchor Hwa-Shin Lee and weather caster Na-Ri Pyo.

Starring Cho Jung-Seok Cho, Hyo-Jin Kong, Gyung-Pyo Ko, Mi-Sook Lee, Sung-Jae Lee and Ji-Young Park.

“The King’s Face,” Wednesday and Thursday at 10 p.m./re-airs on Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m.

This drama series follows the life of Prince Gwanghae. Even though he is the child of a concubine, he becomes the crown prince. For the next 16 years, until he becomes the King, Prince Gwanghae suffers through dethronement and death threats. Using physiognomy as a weapon, he is able to become the King.

Starring In-Guk Seo, Yoon-Hee Jo, Sung-Jae Lee, Sung-Rok Shin and Gyu-Ri Kim.

“Second to Last Love,” Friday and Saturday at 7:45 p.m./re-airs on Saturday and Sunday at noon.

“Second to Last Love” tells the story of Sang-Sik Ko and Min-Joo Kang. Sang-Sik is in his forties and still single. He works as the environmental facility section chief at city hall. Sang-Sik becomes involved with Min-Joo, who is also in her forties and still single. She works as a programming director at a broadcasting station.

Starring Jin-Hee Ji, Hee-Ae Kim, Seul-Gi Kim, Soo-Min Lee and Stephanie Lee.

“Love is Coming,” Friday-Sunday at 9:20 p.m./re-airs Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 12:20 p.m.

A family drama about a woman who is hurt by love, striving for small happiness and realizing the preciousness of family.

“Healer,” Friday at 10 p.m.

Moon-Ho Kim is a popular reporter at major broadcasting company. One day, he learns the truth of a case that took place in the past. He intentionally approaches people who are related to the case and helps them. While doing so, he agonizes over the truth and beliefs.

Meanwhile, with the help of Moon-Ho Kim, internet reporter Young-Shin Chae and Jung-Hoo Seo, known as “Healer,” grow into real reporters.

2016 Autumn Specials

“Doctors Special (2015),” Monday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Sept. 13, at noon.

One of the most popular series to air on KIKU is “Doctors.” The battle between the handsome and calm, yet always-scheming Dr. Sagara and the childish, selfish and naive Dr. Moriyama continues in this two-hour “Doctors” special.

“Mission to Kill Special (2013),” Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 8 p.m.; Wednesday, Sept. 14, at noon.

Shigotonin are assasins hired by victims of crime to avenge wrongs committed against them. Hiring an assassin is also a crime, but when you get to know the victims, you come to sympathize with them.

“Kuroi Jukai,” Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 8 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 15, at noon.

Nobuko and Sachiko are sisters living together in Tokyo. They share a very close relationship ever since their parents died when they were young. One day, Nobuko leaves for a vacation, and Sachiko is shocked to receive word of her death that night. Even more shocking, Nobuko lost her life in a place completely different from where she was set to go on vacation.

Another tale of suspense from the master of intrigue, author Seichou Matsumoto.

“Kuroha,” Thursday, Sept. 15, at 8 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 16, at noon.

The bodies of 14 men and women are found frozen to death in containers in the harbor district of Kanagawa. Detective Kuroha is the first person to make the discovery, and is assigned to the task force investigating the crime. A suicide note is found at the scene, leading the task force to believe it was a mass suicide. But Detective Kuroha has a different hypothesis. She believes there was a 15th person . . . someone who has not committed suicide yet.

“Happy Retirement,” Friday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m.

Shintaro Higuchi has worked in the government financial services division for 33 years and is looking forward to retiring in five years. But a bribery scandal suddenly comes to light within his division, and his supervisor assigns blame to Shintaro. Suddenly, Shintaro’s life is turned upside down. Instead of the happy retirement he was looking forward to, Shintaro is forced to retire under negative circumstances.

Shintaro is faced with a decision. Should he finish out his remaining work years silently, without complaint for the injustice done him? Or, should he get revenge? Which would make for a happier retirement?

“Wild 9,” Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.

Nine people with various skills and talents are dropped off on a deserted island and must find a way to survive together for one week. Each person is allowed to bring along three tools relating to their skill to help them survive. Are the talents of a musician, an artist, and a professional baseball player useful in a survivalist situation?

“What A Mother Wouldn’t Do,” Sunday, Sept. 18, at 8 p.m.

Midori Onodera is a single mom and the owner of a small bar that suddenly finds itself the focus of attention, due to Midori’s popular onigiri menu. As people learn about her menu, Midori’s bar is visited by many new customers. One of them is a former boyfriend, Shuichi Kidani, who is the successful director of a hospital. Shuichi has no idea why Midori broke off their relationship 22 years ago. And Midori’s 22-year-old daughter has no idea that her mom was lying when she said her father died before she was born.

“Homicide Team 9 – Season 5 (TV Asahi),” premieres Friday, Sept. 9, at 8 p.m.

Homicide Team 9 which is composed by the few elites, is the most unusual team in criminal investigation divisions of the Metropolitan Police Department. They are always the top as criminal arrest rate. They try to solve criminal cases with struggling and cooperating each other.

“Beauty and the Fellow (NHK),” premiered Saturday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.

It’s a girl meets boy tale with a twist. The girl is Ichiko, an agent for stars. Ichiko scouts a young actor named Ryo and struggles to transform him into a superstar. Although reluctant at first, Ryo begins to enjoy acting, and eventually begins to rise to stardom.

Along the way, the two have to navigate the unfamiliar and choppy waters of show business, which adds constant friction to their relationship. It’s a relationship that begins as professional, but morphs into an emotional one, as well.

“Sanada Maru (NHK),” Sunday at 7 p.m. and Tuesday at 8 p.m.

“Sanada Maru” is the 55th Taiga drama from NHK.

The story about the life of the last great commander in the Warring States period, Yukimura Sanada, whose real name was Genjiro Nobushige Sanada.

Curious and adventure-loving, Nobushige Sanada tore through the the Warring States period and eventually became a legendary commander who even awed the ruler Ieyasu Tokugawa.

He completed the construction of Sanada Maru, which is the last and strongest fortress to defend the most vulnerable gate of the castle during the Siege of Osaka.

“Age Harassment” (TV Asahi), Sunday at 8 p.m.

Emiri Yoshii has it all: brains, youth, and beauty. She lands a position in a top rated trading company and seems to be on the fast track for success.

But she quickly realizes the old guard of the department she’s in is only paying lip service to equality in the workplace, and all they see is her youth and beauty.

To make matters worse, she also becomes the target of jealousy from older female staff.

Will Emiri be able to change the mentality of her company?

“The Concierge” (TBS), Monday at 8 p.m.

“The Concierge” centers around the daily challenges that go on in the lives of the concierge staff at a luxury hotel. Seeking to fulfil every guest’s request, the concierge staff must sometimes go to the ends of the earth.

“Pet Doctor” (Yomiuri TV), Monday at 9 p.m.

As a veterinarian, Kentaro Shiba — or Shibaken (as he is known by everyone in town) – saves pets’ lives. But he is also known as a busybody because he worries equally about the pet’s owners.

When he sees someone in trouble, he can’t leave them alone. He’ll do whatever he can to help them out.

To some people, Shibaken is a little bit of a pain. But it’s because he cares as much about the owners of the pets as he does about the pets.

“Zenigata Heiji” (Toei), Tuesday at 9 p.m.

Like “Abarenbo Shogun,” “Mito Komon,” and “Toyama no Kinsan,” “Zenigata Heiji” is about an official working undercover to catch criminals.

Heiji is an undercover policeman in the city of Edo. He possesses a superior skill of throwing coins.

When a criminal is caught, Heiji throws coins at the offender and reveals his true identity.

“Truth of Zero” (TV Asahi), Thursday at 8 p.m.

Mao Matsumoto, who has an IQ of over 150, is a mysterious medical examiner.

She has no family. And she knows neither love and fun nor so-called happiness. Nothing interests her except the corpses, and she believes in only forensic evidence.

“Partners 12,” Thursday at 9 p.m.

The 12th season of this popular detective series.

Detective Ukyo Sugishita, has great insight and cunning skills. His partner, Toru Kai, is strong-minded and rough. And he is excellent in the powers of observation. Together they solve many mysterious crimes.

“Hokkai Yukyoden (North Sea Chivalry),” 1967 drama, 1 hour and 29 minutes.

But not all of Takeda’s men take to this new way of doing things, and a rash act by the older, hardened yakuza leads to a final turf war.

A story of young Yoshimune, the future Shogun.

A touching story depicting the harsh lives of farmers in Kasugaseki. An attempt to start a fishery business to revive an ailing farming community creates friction amongst the proud residents.

“Little Forest: Natsu/Aki (Little Forest: Summer/Autumn),” 2014 drama, 1 hour and 51 minutes.

Directed by Jun’ichi Mori. Starring Ai Hashimoto and Takahiro Miura.

Ichiko lived in a big city. She departs city life to return to her small hometown in the Tohoku region. She lives alone in her family home in the fictional village of Komori (which literally translates as “Little Forest”). She is self-sufficient. Ichiko gains energy living among nature and eating foods she makes from seasonal ingredients. This gentle drama about going back to basics is filled with imagery of nature, as a young woman returns to her ancestral roots.

“Murasaki Ukyonosuke Gyaku Ichimonjigiri (Purple Killer),”
1964 samurai/action film, 1 hour and 33 minutes.

Directed by Yasuto Hasegawa. Starring Hashizo Okawa, Eitaro Ozawa and Misako Watanabe.

A sequel to the popular samurai detective movie “Ukyonosuke Junsatsu-ki (On Patrol).” Ukyonosuke’s mission to avenge his father’s death continues. He discovers that a mysterious note written by his father, Inspector Sena, led to Sena’s murder 18 years ago. As Ukyonosuke continues further with his investigation into the conspiracy to uncover the truth behind of Sena’s death, he must confront those who are eager to take his life.

“Musume no Naka no Musume (Sister with Sister),” 1958 drama, 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The beautiful Seto Inland Sea is home to the legendary treasure of the samurai pirates, undiscovered for four hundred years. Directed by Sadatsugu Matsuda and Tsuneo Kobayashi. Starring Chiezo Kataoka and Shin Tokudaiji.

Detective Tarao goes undercover to battle an evil gun smuggling business.

“Tsuri Baka Nisshi 7 (Free and Easy 7),” 1994 comedy/drama, 1 hour and 37 minutes.

Directed by Seiji Izumi. Starring Toshiyuki Nishida and Rentaro Mikuni.

Seventh installment of the series of “Tsuribaka nisshi,” which chronicles the adventures of Hama-chan and also his boss Su-san, both fishing fanatics. On a fishing trip, Hama-chan and Su-san meet a beautiful lady and the three have a great time. Later, Su-san gets a toothache, and his dentist turns out to be the woman, whom he secretly takes fishing, lying to Hama-chan in the process. When the two men later run into one another, their friendship is threatened.

“Umon Torimoncho Jigoku no Kazaguruma (Case of Umon: Hell’s Windmill)” 1960 samurai/action film, 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Directed by Tadashi Sawashima. Starring Ryutaro Otomo, Kotaro Satomi, Ryunosuke Tsukigata and Shunji Sakai.

“FLASHBACK,” premieres Friday, Sept. 2, at 7:35 p.m.

Twenty years ago, 5-year-old Ryoma saw his father being murdered right before him. When he touched his father’s dead body, strange images suddenly came to mind. He began to get the residual thoughts that the spirits of the dead possess (flashbacks) when he comes into contact with dead bodies. If he cannot actually find and get in touch with those flashbacks within 72 hours, his brain’s synapses will explode and he will die. He aimed to be an archaeologist like his father, but is scouted and is now a detective of HIDE (Hidden Incident Department) which pursues bizarre murders of unknown causes. Fully subtitled in English.

“Mystery Hour – Keishicho Sosaikkacho (MPD Chief Murder Investigator),” premieres Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 7:35 p.m.

The First Investigative Division is the star unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Oiwa, the head of the division, leads around 400 elite detectives. He has an extremely heavy responsibility, but he’s not a superman. Amid his suffering, Oiwa overcomes this grave responsibility and is quite simply a “life-size hero” and “ideal boss” to his subordinates. Fully subtitled in English.

“Ohenro (The 88 Temple Pilgrimage),” premieres Thursday, Sept. 8, at 8:30 p.m.

The Shikoku Pilgrimage (Shikoku Ohenro) is a multi-site pilgrimage of 88 temples associated with the Buddhist monk Kükai (Köbö Daishi) on the island of Shikoku, Japan. A popular and distinctive feature of the island’s cultural landscape, and with a long history, large numbers of pilgrims undertake the journey. Megumi, Chiwa and Mao, three cute anime characters, will take you to the 88 temples. Fully subtitled in English.

“Nohime,” premieres Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 8:30 p.m.

During the Warring States Period where military commanders were building castles in various regions, war and peace were cyclical. Nohime, the daughter of Dosan Saito who had supplanted his lord to become the ruler of Mino, was ordered by her father to marry Nobunaga Oda of Owari. Dosan gave his daughter as bride to show that he had joined hands with the Oda. Nohime is respectfully welcomed by Nobunaga’s parents at Nagoya Castle, but the groom cannot be found. Then, a man in stained short sleeves appears from the courtyard. That man is Nobunaga. Fully subtitled in English.

“Otosan to Yobasete (May I Call You Dad?),” premieres Friday, Sept. 30, at 7:35 p.m.

At age 51, Tamotsu Daidoji is a department manager of a mid-sized trading company. A dedicated salesman with a sincere heart, he has been so focused on his career that he has never had the opportunity to meet a woman for marriage. However, things changed when Tamotsu met 23-year-old Miran, a young woman with a charming smile and warm personality. One day he sets his mind on marriage with Miran, and he proposes. Soon after, Kiichiro Hanazawa, an elite executive who works for a large general trading company, hears from his wife that their eldest daughter Miran has a boyfriend and this man will come to their home soon. Little does he know that Miran’s boyfriend is the same age as him. Fully subtitled in English.

The seventh movie of the series “Yakuza Ladies” focuses on a wife of a small Osaka family. She risks her life to protect her husband’s family and its members against much larger, more established organizations.

MOVIE OF THE MONTH

Sept. 3: “Gekijoban SPEC ~Ketsu~ Zen no Hen (SPEC: Close ~Incarnation~),” 2013 drama, 1 hour and 34 minutes.

Directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi. Starring Erika Toda and Ryo Kase.

The sloppy but brainy Toma whose left arm hangs in a sling and simple-
minded Sebumi have been battling against many SPEC holders. In the deadly combat with their invincible nemesis Ninomae, the most powerful SPEC

holder who can stop time, they emerged victorious and were brought to the hospital barely alive. The SPEC holders embark on a fight for supremacy with the human race. A romantic comedy about two past acquaintances who meet again after they’ve gone through a reversal of fortunes and appearances, set in the backdrop of a fashion magazine’s publishing office.

Hye-jin Kim was a very pretty girl from a rich family. After her family’s publishing company went bankrupt, she experienced hardships then lost her beauty too. Sung-joon Ji was an unattractive boy with low self-esteem, but grows up to become a handsome and successful editor.

The two met again as adults, but Sung-joon was unable to recognize Hye-jin. Ashamed to meet her first love and ruin his perception of her, Hye-jin asks her attractive best friend, Ha-ri, to appear in her place. Things, however, soon get complicated.

This drama series follows the life of Prince Gwanghae. Even though he is the child of a concubine, he becomes the crown prince. For the next 16 years, until he becomes the King, Prince Gwanghae suffers through dethronement and death threats. Using physiognomy as a weapon, he is able to become the King.

“Second to Last Love” tells the story of Sang-Sik Ko and Min-Joo Kang. Sang-Sik is in his forties and still single. He works as the environmental facility section chief at city hall. Sang-Sik becomes involved with Min-Joo, who is also in her forties and still single. She works as a programming director at a broadcasting station.

“Nobunaga’s Chef  (TV Asahi),” premieres on Monday, Oct. 3, at  9 p.m.

This drama is about time travel based on manga.

A young chef named Ken is mysteriously transported to the Sengoku period and he also loses most of his memories. He is thrown in the midst of a battle between soldiers, and, as both sides think he is a spy, they hunt him down. During his escape, Ken meets Natsu, a young blacksmith girl. Because of his cooking abilities, Ken is soon recruited as personal chef of Oda Nobunaga.

“Hatchobori no Shichinin (TOEI),” premieres on Thursday, Oct. 6, at
8 p.m.

This is the story of seven police officers in the district of Hachobori in ancient Edo. Under the direction of inspector Aoyama, they work together to maintain peace and solve the crimes that plague the locals.

“Downtown Rocket (TBS),” premieres on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 8 p.m.

“Downtown Rocket” is about a former researcher at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Japan’s version of NASA) who is pursuing his lifelong dream to develop a rocket engine. Pursuit of this dream causes Ryohei Tsukuda to single-mindedly focus all of his family-owned manufacturing company’s efforts on developing the engine, at the expense of all other projects.

One day, Ryohei receives an offer to buy his patent for more than $17 billion. Will Ryohei sell or continue to follow his dream?

“Dr. Storks (TBS),” premieres on Sunday, Oct. 9, at 9 p.m.

Sakura Konotori is a gynecologist who is the leader of an ob-gyn team and respected by his peers. He is also a pianist known as “Baby,” who plays at a club in Tokyo.

One night at the club, he stops after 10 minutes of playing to rush to the hospital to help a pregnant woman. The pregnant woman has never had an examination and the hospital isn’t even sure how many months she has been pregnant. Sakura decides to admit the pregnant woman even though there is high risk. He asks the Neonatology team for help. Takayuki Imahashi is the leader of the Neonatology team and he prepares for the woman to give birth.

“Behind the Noren 2 (Fuji),” premieres on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 9 p.m.

In “Behind the Noren 2,” Naoko continues her training to become the proprietress of her husband’s family’s inn, still trying to earn the respect and acceptance of her mother-in-law, the current “okami.”

This is made even harder when Naoko’s husband Shosuke disappears once again.

When Shosuke is discovered to be living in Taiwan, Naoko’s mother-in-law Shino sends Naoko to Taiwan to bring him back.

During her absence, Shino’s niece Yukiko appears to help out at the inn, and she becomes Naoko’s strongest rival for the position.

“Dotchi (YTV),” premieres on Friday, Oct. 28, at 9 p.m.; repeats on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 8 p.m.

This popular exciting cooking show returns!!

Which dish??? Hiroshi Sekiguchi and Yuji Miyake hosts an exciting cooking contest between expert chefs, cooking two popular dishes using the best ingredients possible. When the chefs have completed their dishes, a celebrity panel is presented with a choice of which dish they wish to eat. The choice that receives the majority of the votes, “wins” and the panelists get to eat that dish.

“Homicide Team 9 – Season 5 (TV Asahi),” Friday at 8 p.m.

Homicide Team 9 which is composed by the few elites, is the most unusual team in criminal investigation divisions of the Metropolitan Police Department. They are always the top as criminal arrest rate. They try to solve criminal cases with struggling and cooperating each other.

“Beauty and the Fellow (NHK),” Saturday at 7 p.m.

It’s a girl meets boy tale with a twist. The girl is Ichiko, an agent for stars. Ichiko scouts a young actor named Ryo and struggles to transform him into a superstar. Although reluctant at first, Ryo begins to enjoy acting, and eventually begins to rise to stardom.

Along the way, the two have to navigate the unfamiliar and choppy waters of show business, which adds constant friction to their relationship. It’s a relationship that begins as professional, but morphs into an emotional one, as well.

“Losing Heaven,” Sunday at 5 p.m.

Bridgette and Ellery are childhood best friends, and their bond becomes even stronger when Bridgette’s parents are killed, leaving her an orphan. Ellery’s father adopts Bridgette, making them sisters.

The best friends/sisters grow up and attain careers they love. Everything is going well until Bridgette meets Jonas. Instantly, she falls in love with him, but he only has eyes for Ellery. After Ellery meets him, they fall in love and marry.

Their happiness is shattered when they learn Ellery cannot conceive. Bridgette steps in and offers to be a surrogate mom through in-vitro, and births a daughter.

Ellery gets into a car accident and is in a coma. Bridgette convinces Jonas to annul his marriage to Ellery for the sake of the baby and marry her.

Lara and Sara are conjoined twins who, after being separated, are adopted by two different aunts. Aunty Betty takes Lara, so her mean daughter Vanessa would have a playmate. But living in their cruel household forces Lara to run away, and she eventually finds a kind Samaritan who takes her in.

Meanwhile, Sara is adopted by another aunt, whose abusive husband disfigures her face. After plastic surgery to restore her face, Sara realizes the surgeon has made her look exactly like her cousin Vanessa. Only then does she learn that the surgeon and Vanessa are lovers, and the surgery was a plot to create Vanessa’s body double, freeing the couple to travel abroad and spend money stolen from Vanessa’s husband.

“Sanada Maru” is the 55th Taiga drama from NHK.

The story about the life of the last great commander in the Warring States period, Yukimura Sanada, whose real name was Genjiro Nobushige Sanada.

Curious and adventure-loving, Nobushige Sanada tore through the the Warring States period and eventually became a legendary commander who even awed the ruler Ieyasu Tokugawa.

He completed the construction of Sanada Maru, which is the last and strongest fortress to defend the most vulnerable gate of the castle during the Siege of Osaka.

Saburo Kitajima, Japan’s one of the most famous Enka singers, returns on the sixth of the Kyodai Jingi series. During early 20th century, Ryuji from Asakusa, a wandering yakuza, joins the Narumi Family in Yokohama. However, when he confronts Shiotaro, the head of the rival family, Ryuji takes liking of him. He ends up leaving his current family, and becomes close to Shiotaro like brothers swearing to become a full-fledged yakuza.

MOVIE OF THE MONTH

Oct. 1 “Gekijoban SPEC ~Ketsu~Kou no Hen (SPEC Close ~Reincarnation~),” 2013 drama, 1 hour and 31 minutes.

Directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi. Starring Erika Toda and Ryo Kase.

Toma finally uses her SPEC to try to locate Nonomura but is almost swallowed up by her power. Torn between fears that her power will go out of control, that she cannot do her best as a detective if she does not use it, and that she will be exposing her colleagues to danger, Toma lashes out at Sebumi. Toma requests that he shoots her dead the moment she goes astray. Just as she visits the research lab to request the development of a vaccine, Nonomura shows up when he should have been dead. Someone has possessed his body in an attempt to seize the virus. At that moment, Toma is attacked by an assassin, and the vial containing the virus breaks in her hand.

In the emergency room, Shi-Jin meets Dr. Mo-Yeon for the first time. He falls in love with her immediately. Mo-Yeon mistakenly assumes Shi-Jin is part of thief’s criminal gang. He proves to her that he is a soldier with the help of army doctor Myeong-Joo.

Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon begin to date, but due to their jobs, their dates don’t go well. Shi-Jin takes an order to lead his soldiers on a peacekeeping mission to the country of Uruk. Meanwhile, Mo-Yeon becomes upset that she fails to become a professor due to a colleague’s privileged background.

When Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again, they talk about their views on life and realize how different they are. Shi-Jin, as a soldier, kills to protect lives and Mo-Yeon, as a doctor, tries to save all lives. They say their goodbyes.

Eight months later, Mo-Yeon rebuffs the sexual advances of hospital chairman Suk-Won and as retribution, is assigned to lead a medical team in Uruk. There, Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again.

Despite the fact they endured a bleak racist prewar climate and were not even considered U.S. citizens, these individuals rallied to join the war effort and cement their rightful place in American history.

“442nd Legacy of Heroes – The Nisei Veterans of WWII,” Saturday, Nov. 26, at 9 p.m.

An incredible group of Japanese American soldiers in World War II changed the world and touched many lives with their dignity and honor. While many members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team were on the battlefields, back at home, many of their families were incarcerated in internment camps simply because of prejudice. The bravery and patriotism of the Nisei soldiers will never be forgotten.

“Love and Law (Yomiuri),” premieres Monday, Nov. 7, at 8 p.m.

Bunta Minowa is a young man who has never held a steady job, and used to be the leader of a motorcycle gang. When he learns of the existence of a stepsister, he vows to kick his carefree lifestyle aside, get a steady job, and make his one and only little sister happy.

He completed the construction of Sanada Maru, which is the last and strongest fortress to defend the most vulnerable gate of the castle during the Siege of Osaka.

“Downtown Rocket” is about a former researcher at the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Japan’s version of NASA) who is pursuing his lifelong dream to develop a rocket engine. Sakura Konotori is a gynecologist who is the leader of an ob-gyn team and respected by his peers. He is also a pianist known as “Baby,” who plays at a club in Tokyo.

One night at the club, he stops after 10 minutes of playing to rush to the hospital to help a pregnant woman. The pregnant woman has never had an examination and the hospital isn’t even sure how many months she has been pregnant. Sakura decides to admit the pregnant woman even though there is high risk. He asks the Neonatology team for help. Takayuki Imahashi is the leader of the Neonatology team and he prepares for the woman to give birth.

“Nobunaga’s Chef  (TV Asahi),” Monday at  9 p.m.

This drama is about time travel based on manga.

A young chef named Ken is mysteriously transported to the Sengoku period and he also loses most of his memories. He is thrown in the midst of a battle between soldiers, and, as both sides think he is a spy, they hunt him down. During his escape, Ken meets Natsu, a young blacksmith girl. Because of his cooking abilities, Ken is soon recruited as personal chef of Oda Nobunaga.

“Behind the Noren 2 (Fuji),” Tuesday at 9 p.m.

In “Behind the Noren 2,” Naoko continues her training to become the proprietress of her husband’s family’s inn, still trying to earn the respect and acceptance of her mother-in-law, the current “okami.”

This is made even harder when Naoko’s husband Shosuke disappears once again.

When Shosuke is discovered to be living in Taiwan, Naoko’s mother-in-law Shino sends Naoko to Taiwan to bring him back.

During her absence, Shino’s niece Yukiko appears to help out at the inn, and she becomes Naoko’s strongest rival for the position.

“Hatchobori no Shichinin (TOEI),” Thursday at 8 p.m.

This is the story of seven police officers in the district of Hachobori in ancient Edo. Under the direction of inspector Aoyama, they work together to maintain peace and solve the crimes that plague the locals.

In the emergency room, Shi-Jin meets Dr. Mo-Yeon for the first time. He falls in love with her immediately. Mo-Yeon mistakenly assumes Shi-Jin is part of thief’s criminal gang. He proves to her that he is a soldier with the help of army doctor Myeong-Joo.

Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon begin to date, but due to their jobs, their dates don’t go well. Shi-Jin takes an order to lead his soldiers on a peacekeeping mission to the country of Uruk. Meanwhile, Mo-Yeon becomes upset that she fails to become a professor due to a colleague’s privileged background.

When Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again, they talk about their views on life and realize how different they are. Shi-Jin, as a soldier, kills to protect lives and Mo-Yeon, as a doctor, tries to save all lives. They say their goodbyes.

Eight months later, Mo-Yeon rebuffs the sexual advances of hospital chairman Suk-Won and as retribution, is assigned to lead a medical team in Uruk. There, Shi-Jin and Mo-Yeon meet again.

“Madame Butterfly,” premieres Monday, Dec. 5, at 9 p.m.

Cho-Cho is a young woman growing up under her mother and grandmother’s tutelage after the death of her samurai father. After their sudden death, however, Cho-Cho finds herself without the means to support herself, and is adopted by a wealthy family that owns a brothel in Nagasaki. Her adoptive stepmother promises to continue Cho-Cho’s education, but when she dies unexpectedly, Cho-Cho is forced to become a geisha. As an apprentice geisha, Cho-Cho meets Franklin, an American naval officer. Seeing in him the samurai spirit of her own father, Cho-Cho marries Franklin. But for Franklin, the marriage is nothing but a relationship of convenience.

“Kumokiri Nizaemon,” premieres Friday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m.

Nizaemon Kumokiri is the greatest bandit of all time. He has a gang of highly skilled thieves who target the wealthy, without ever killing or injuring anyone. They are active throughout the Edo, Tokaido, Nakasendo and Kansai regions. When the Shogunate appoints Shikibu Abe as the new chief of the public security force, it sets off a fierce battle of will pride between Nizaemon and Shikibu.

“Chushingura,” airs in two parts – Thursday, Dec. 15 and 22, at 8 p.m.

The story begins with a feud between Yoshinaka Kira, a chief protocol officer of the Shogun, and Takumi Asano, who was hand-picked by the Shogun to act as his representative with members of the Imperial family. Kira resented having to train Asano, and often sought ways to embarrass him. After one such incident, Asano drew his sword on Kira, but did not kill him. Because acts of aggression were forbidden within the palace, Asano was then ordered to commit suicide. After his death, Asano’s lands and property were confiscated, and his retainers became ronin. Vowing to avenge their lord, the ronin patiently waited for a year, until Kira’s guard was down, before they attacked his compound, killing Kira and avenging their lord.

“Fishermen’s Pride,” Sunday, Dec. 18 and 25, at 9:30 p.m.

A documentary about fishermen in Japan.  Our host accompanies fishermen on their boats and in their homes as they share their lives and love for the sea and its bounty.

“Kinako (TV Asahi),” Sunday, Dec. 25, at 8 p.m.

Kinako is a documentary about a police dog who repeatedly failed at her police dog trials, and her trainer, who refused to accept that Kinako was a failure.

The trainer’s name is Kyoko Mochizuki. Kyoko was 18 when she admitted to the police dog training academy to begin her lifelong dream of training police dogs. Soon after, Kyoko met Kinako, a Labrador retriever puppy.

Despite Kyoko’s efforts, Kinako repeatedly fails her tests, but Kyoko refuses to give up. With patience, determination, and tenacity, Kyoko continues to work with Kinako, believing that one day, her hard work will be rewarded.

“Losing Heaven,” Sunday at 5 p.m.

Bridgette and Ellery are childhood best friends, and their bond becomes even stronger when Bridgette’s parents are killed, leaving her an orphan. Ellery’s father adopts Bridgette, making them sisters.

The best friends/sisters grow up and attain careers they love. Everything is going well until Bridgette meets Jonas. Instantly, she falls in love with him, but he only has eyes for Ellery. After Ellery meets him, they fall in love and marry.

Their happiness is shattered when they learn Ellery cannot conceive. Bridgette steps in and offers to be a surrogate mom through in-vitro, and births a daughter.

Ellery gets into a car accident and is in a coma. Bridgette convinces Jonas to annul his marriage to Ellery for the sake of the baby and marry her.

Lara and Sara are conjoined twins who, after being separated, are adopted by two different aunts. Aunty Betty takes Lara, so her mean daughter Vanessa would have a playmate. But living in their cruel household forces Lara to run away, and she eventually finds a kind Samaritan who takes her in.

Meanwhile, Sara is adopted by another aunt, whose abusive husband disfigures her face. After plastic surgery to restore her face, Sara realizes the surgeon has made her look exactly like her cousin Vanessa. Only then does she learn that the surgeon and Vanessa are lovers, and the surgery was a plot to create Vanessa’s body double, freeing the couple to travel abroad and spend money stolen from Vanessa’s husband.

“Sanada Maru (NHK),” Sunday at 7 p.m. and Tuesday at 8 p.m.

“Sanada Maru” is the 55th Taiga drama from NHK.

The story about the life of the last great commander in the Warring States period, Yukimura Sanada, whose real name was Genjiro Nobushige Sanada.

Curious and adventure-loving, Nobushige Sanada tore through the the Warring States period and eventually became a legendary commander who even awed the ruler Ieyasu Tokugawa.

He completed the construction of Sanada Maru, which is the last and strongest fortress to defend the most vulnerable gate of the castle during the Siege of Osaka.

“Love and Law (Yomiuri),” Monday at 8 p.m.

Bunta Minowa is a young man who has never held a steady job, and used to be the leader of a motorcycle gang. When he learns of the existence of a stepsister, he vows to kick his carefree lifestyle aside, get a steady job, and make his one and only little sister happy.

The steady job he ends up with is with a law firm, assisting the cool, beautiful attorney Natsumi.

Together, this odd couple has the right mixture of love and wild antics to solve cases.

“Behind the Noren 2 (Fuji),” Tuesday at 9 p.m.

In “Behind the Noren 2,” Naoko continues her training to become the proprietress of her husband’s family’s inn, still trying to earn the respect and acceptance of her mother-in-law, the current “okami.”

This is made even harder when Naoko’s husband Shosuke disappears once again.

When Shosuke is discovered to be living in Taiwan, Naoko’s mother-in-law Shino sends Naoko to Taiwan to bring him back.

During her absence, Shino’s niece Yukiko appears to help out at the inn, and she becomes Naoko’s strongest rival for the position.

“Hatchobori no Shichinin (TOEI),” Thursday at 8 p.m.

This is the story of seven police officers in the district of Hachobori in ancient Edo. Under the direction of inspector Aoyama, they work together to maintain peace and solve the crimes that plague the locals.

Later, Su-san gets a toothache, and his dentist turns out to be the woman, whom he secretly takes fishing, lying to Hama-chan in the process. When the two men later run into one another, their friendship is threatened.
